Open Standards, Open Source

Synectics is committed to the communities in which we live and work.  As we search for innovative ways to use the skills and tools we have developed to benefit those around us, we continue to maintain close ties to our environmental roots.  Over a decade ago, we published a free environmental technical library on the Internet; today this library contains nearly 10,000 documents  and images and receives thousands of hits per week from environmental professionals world-wide.

Over the past 15 years, Synectics has developed dozens of open source software applications in support of state and federal government projects.  Our position is that software developed with goverment funding is considered to be in the public domain, and should be freely available so that we don't have different organizations building the same products over and over at taxpayer expense. Currently, we are in the process of creating a publicly available data clearinghouse to make it easier for all government and environmental project teams to utilize this software, to further save time and money.

Admittedly this isn't completely altruistic - we are taxpayers too!
